Psalm 27: The LORD is My Light in Dark Times

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. PSALM 27:1-3 NIV

One of the leaders of our denomination often ends his sermons dynamically and powerfully by quoting Psalm 27. This powerful preacher quotes the King James version and it never fails to, if you will, bring down the house.

In the last few days I have spoken to dear families who are going through very difficult, no, heart wrenching challenges.

They feel as though their “house” is caving in.

Some of them appear to be hemmed in, frustrated, attacked, ill-treated by medical and other staff, and, often always juggling responsibility, priority and their own precious humanity.

Their life story right now is an extremely tough one.

However, fortified with faith bricks like those from Psalm 27, these families continue to robustly believe God. In the midst of trying circumstances their faith is being tried and found to be true.

Their faithful testimony encouraged my faith.

To a person, though beleaguered and sometimes baffled by the unfairness of the battle, their faithful stand radiates the opening lines of Psalm 27, “The LORD is my Light and my Salvation…”

I commend that Lord to you today.

Child of the Most High God:

Stay faithful! The Lord will lead you by lighting the right path and by pouring out righteous provision for you.

Stay faithful! The Lord will scatter and expose your enemies.

Stay faithful! He will reward you with His presence and with victory over your enemies.

Stay faithful! “RE” mind, or, put another way, daily reframe your mind in faith around the truths of God and His word. By doing this you will defeat the attacks of the enemy against your mind and your peace in the situation.

Desiring God recently released an excellent teaching from John Piper on the need to daily reset your mind on Jesus. Listen to it HERE.

I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13 NIV

Show up for the fight again today.

The story which God has written for you (and me) is one of faithfulness and victory. By the grace of God – you are fearless and YOU WILL WIN because the LORD is your light.

How is God encouraging your faith? Are you ready to win?

Blessings,

Kimberly
