Part of the blog post title comes from Pastor Dharius’ message: Relationshipology: I Need Someone To Help Me.
Dr. Dharius Daniels is the founding pastor of Change Church a multi-located, vibrant church. I appreciate Dr. Daniels’ ministry as he dives into matters that affect our everyday lives.
PD often and usually teaches and preaches in series. The prayer is from last few minutes of part 2 of his latest series called Relationshipology . This particular sermon title: I Need Someone to Help Me.
I would have been greatly helped emotionally and relationally if the leaders of the churches my family and I attended when I was younger would have preached or taught the young people the relational truths that Dr. Daniels reveals.

If your Saturday night was not one that reflected the glory of God, take heart dear Christian. The LORD still calls:
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
Please also consider: For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity. Proverbs 24:16

Repent and get back up again to joyfully live the abundant life that Christ died to obtain for you.
Falling back into old patterns often has more to do with unresolved attachments than we realize, which is exactly what Dr. Daniels addresses next. Below is the prayer he lifted over the congregation, but first, a quick definition of “soul tie” as he used the term in the message:
Soul Tie: an emotional and relational bond formed through physical intimacy that continues to exert influence over your thoughts, decisions and vulnerabilities long after the relationship has ended. A soul tie outlives the act that created it. It increases temptation, infects our discernment and intensifies our shame. Dr. Dharius Daniels, Relationshipology 27:58-28:17; 28:54-29:06
Father, I come before you acknowledging that my soul is impacted from connections that I chose and wounds I did not deserve.
Today, I ask You to help me search my heart so that I may see where there are attachments You didn’t assign.
I confess every ungodly soul tie that I formed through relationships, agreements and intimacies that were not aligned with Your will for my life. I come into agreement with what You say about my behavior.
I confess that I gave access to my heart and to my mind and to my body to people and to patterns that were never authorized by You.
I bonded with people out of brokeness and I confused their lust over me with their love for me.
Gracious God. Forgiving Father. Forgive me and by the authority of the finished work of Jesus, I now sever every ungodly soul tie, formed in my past, and present.
I break every covenant, every connection, and covering that was made outside of Your will and Your word and I release every person I’ve wrongly held on to and every person that has wrongly held on to me.
What was joined in disobedience, I now separate in repentance.
Father, cover every wound that these ties created.
Heal the places in my soul where rejection, betrayal, shame and abandonment took root. And where trauma tried to write my identity, let Your truth re-write my story.
Restore what has been stolen.
Reorder what was disoriented.
And reconnect me fully and freely to You as the primary source of my identity, my intimacy and my security.
Let no residue remain. Let no echo return. Let no open door stay open. Seal my soul in Your peace.
And, from this day forward, I am whole and I am Yours.
In the name of Jesus,
May He whom the Son sets free, be free indeed.
Amen
I don’t share this lightly. There were attachments I’d carried far longer than I should have.
This pattern started as a teen.
I am from a church tradition of an altar call where, following the message, persons are encouraged to come to the front or the altar and be prayed for and to receive Christ.
My friends and I “got saved” Sunday after Sunday after Sunday.
We loved Jesus but did not live fully devoted Christian lives mostly because we idolized our boyfriend or girlfriend, some of us abused substances: we were wrapped up and trapped by soul ties.
This I only learned to name as an adult but that I wish someone had helped me to recognize and renounce by putting these behaviors into words decades ago. The real name of many of my past sorrows was “Soul Tie.”
I believe that the LORD through Dr. Daniels’ message will help you see the issues and break the ties that bind.
Please do watch the full message . Dr. Daniels’ preaching is real, relatable and positioned to help you see and, in the power of the Holy Spirit, sever that soul tie.
How is Pastor Daniels’ preaching helpful to you or someone you love?
