A number of years ago now, at a particular job, for no reason that I can fathom to this day, I had a boss who hated me.

This supervisor dismissed my work and my work ethic, and spoke poorly of me to others affecting those relationships negatively.

However, at one point, misreading the room, if you will, I foolishly thought the relationship might be turning for the better.

The boss promised to consider me for a promotion for which I was qualified. Later, when I followed up on that conversation, the claim was made that we had never spoken about a promotion and that such a promise was never made.

I am so sorry if you can relate.

Interestingly, Psalm 18 was my devotion on the day during which that boss was fired due to their mistreatment of another employee who made a formal complaint. One day the boss was terrifyingly present, the next day, gloriously absent!!

God, through this psalm, helped me to engage with the realization that our troubles HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE. I read especially Psalm 18:1-3 differently after that boss’s separation.

God is able and He will rescue you from your enemies, your anxiety, your trouble, suffering and sorrow. His rescue may not be as dramatic as mine was in that instance, but, I tell you confidently from the scriptures: God sees. God cares. God acts.

Psalm 18:1-17

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said:

I will love You, O Lord, my strength.

² The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the^]horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

³ I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.

⁴ The pangs of death surrounded me,
And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid.

⁵ The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me;
The snares of death confronted me.

⁶ In my distress I called upon the Lord,
And cried out to my God;
He heard my voice from His temple,
